Location
Approx. 3 km from the charming village of Thenon which is situated on a hill at the entrance to the Vézère Valley and the Auvézère, in eastern Dordogne, an area known as the Black Périgord. The area is renowned for its prehistoric sites, centred on the Vézère and Dordogne valleys and has also long been admired for its beautiful scenery, with attractive towns and villages such as Montignac, Lascaux, Font-de-Gaume, Les Eyzies, Le Bugue, Limeuil, Terrasson, St Cyprien and Sarlat all worth a visit. Along the Dordogne Valley, the castles of Montfort, Beynac and Castelnaud stand guard over the river - imposing reminders of the region`s turbulent history. Thenon hosts every week a lovely farmers’ market and its leisure lake with sandy shores is popular for bathing and watersports. 35 km from Périgueux, 40 km from Sarlat. 18 km from the Lascaux caves with their famous paintings and stunning natural rock formations.

PLACES TO VISIT:
Montignac. 15 km. Pretty village on the Vézère river most famous for being home to the Lascaux Caves.
Terrasson. 25 km. Attractive town on the banks of the Vézère river and renowned for its stunning `Jardins de l`Imaginaire`, award winning gardens planted on a steep hill.
Les Eyzies. 30 km. Home to the world’s most beautiful caves, some with outstanding crystallisations as well as stunning cliffs and rock formations. Cromagnon man was discovered here at the end of the 19th century. Nearby Fond de Gaume is one of the last prehistoric cave-painting sites that is still open to the public. The National Prehistory Museum which houses one of the world’s most complete collections of prehistoric artifacts is also found in Les Eyzies.
Périgueux. 35 km. Capital city of the Dordogne department, set on the banks of the River Isle. The city boasts a beautiful medieval centre as well as a smaller but nonetheless fascinating roman quarter.

THINGS TO DO:
L`Appel de la Forêt, Thénon. 5 km. Tree top adventure park. 9 progressive trails with over 100 activities. Swing, crawl and climb through the trees or slide down one of the 25 zip lines. An unforgettable moment to share with family or friends.
Grottes de Lascaux. 18 km. World famous caves boasting paintings estimated to be from around 19,000 years ago. Open to the public after WWII but closed in 1963 because the paintings were being damaged by the carbon dioxide produced by thousands of visitors. The current site is a replica situated 200m from the original site.
Le Conquil - Parc aux Dinosaures, St Léon sur Vézère. 20 km. Learn in a fun and friendly way the evolution of the largest prehistoric animals and travel to the land of dinosaurs ... In a unique setting, overlooking St Leon sur Vézère, 18ha of fully shaded woodlands to explore (allow 90mn).
Golf Public de Périgueux, Marsac sur l’Isle. 40 km. Golf course. 18 holes – 6028m par 72. On the banks of River Isle, a fairly flat and technical course with many water hazards.

FURTHER AFIELD:
Excideuil. 35 km. Historical little town with gothic church and 16th century houses, originally developed around a 10th century monastery and overlooked by its castle. Its Thursday market should not be missed.
Sarlat. 40 km. Beautiful, well restored town with old quarters dating from both medieval and renaissance times and a maze of narrow medieval cobbled streets to explore.
Thiviers. 45 km. `Capital of the foie gras in Green Perigord`, the old part of the town holds the most interest for visitors including devilish carvings on the church columns! The town also has an important history of producing pottery.
Brantome. 55 km. Idyllic village on the banks of the River Dronne, known locally as the Venice of Perigord. Boasting a beautiful Benedictine abbey and a fabulous troglodyte cave with scenes of the Last Judgement carved in the stone make it well worth a detour.
