Location Away from the main roads, 10 km from BAYEUX and its famous tapestry, 42 km from CAEN and ferries, Port-en-Bessin-Huppain, 1st fishing harbour in Lower Normandy is ideally situated between the D-Day landing beaches of OMAHA BEACH and ARROMANCHES on the Côte de Nacre. Every day, freshly caught fish and shellfish can be bought from the harbour with bars, brasseries and restaurants. Environment : Peaceful residential setting.
PLACES TO VISIT: Bayeux. 10 km. Attractive town with well-preserved medieval centre and a renowned cathedral. Also famous for its tapestry depicting the story of the conquest of England and King Harold by the Norman William the Conqueror, in the Battle of Hastings. D-Day landings memorial museum. Arromanches. 10 km. Pleasant and lively seaside resort with plenty of bars and restaurants, famous for the part it played in the D-day landings in June 1944.

FURTHER AFIELD: Caen. 45 km. Although almost completely destroyed in 1944 during WWII, Caen boasts an attractive historic centre. With beautiful abbeys and ramparts, excellent museums and lively pedestrian streets with good shops, it is well-worth a visit. Ste Mère Eglise. 55 km. First town to be liberated after the D-Day landings hosting the Airborne Troops Museum with memorabilia of the time. Cabourg. 65 km. Chic and mythic seaside resort on the estuary of the river Dives, renowned for its 2½ mile long fine sandy beach and its magnificent Belle Epoque atmosphere, made famous by Marcel Proust. Beuvron. 75 km. Most delightful village with attractive half timbered buildings and beautiful manor house. Well worth a detour.
